Isabella Blow

The late Isabella Blow

Before Lady Gaga and Daphne Guinness there was Isabella Blow! The original style chameleon and British icon who discovered designers Alexander McQueen and Julien McDonald as well as models Sophie Dahl and Stella Tennant. Today at Somerset House in London opened the ‘Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore!’ exhibition to celebrate the life and fearless fashions of a woman who has inspired many of today’s style mavens.

On show are more than 100 pieces from her wardrobe which showcase her eclectic style and vivacious personality. Also on display are garments from some of the designers whose careers she nurtured from the start such as John Galliano’s couture dresses and Phillip Treacy’s incredible intricate hats which she was often seen wearing.

There is also a book based on the exhibition which will be a fantastic tome to add to your collection, as there is still so much to discover about this icon whose personal style and legacy is still relevant today.

‘Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore!’ exhibition open 20th November 2013 until 2nd March 2014.

Natalie Portman does colour blocking

Natalie PortmanWHO: Natalie Portman

WORE: Dior Couture

WHEN: NYC Ballet Gala

Comment: Natalie always looks elegant and as the face of Dior she can have her pick of outfits. This one is interesting due to the texture and colours that make up this dress. The colour blocking helps elongate her petite body and show cases her small frame. The dress is simple and not fussy, however it is a dress that I did not expect Natalie to wear or Dior to create.

SS14 LFW…Antonio Berardi

Antonio Berardi SS14 LFW

Antonio Berardi SS14LFW

The classic feminine evening dress was reinvented with this collection. Teamed with leather jackets, slicked back hair and bold red lips it showed this woman has attitude… and lots of it. .

Berardi moved into a new direction showing more relaxed and loose fitting outfits than ever before. He played with shape, the use of oversized or boxy jackets with fitted dresses worked well, as did the fitted tops with loose pants. There were some boyish pieces which retained there elegance through the use of delicate fabrics and pale pinks, reds and creams.

Never before has elegant and casual been merged so well into one.The whole collection was beautiful, wearable and styled very well, even if was a bit too pink for my liking.

Cushnie et Ochs

Were only half way through AW13 yet designers are now tempting us with their new collections as the 2014 spring/summer fashion weeks kicked of in New York.

New York is best known for shows by established designers such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Diane Von Furstenburg. So it was good to see strong shows from smaller less established brands like Cushnie et Ochs who have been gaining popularity over the past few years.

Established in 2009 their DNA for strong sensual feminine dresses have seen the brand go from strength to strength with celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Selena Gomez and Kelly Rowland hitting the red carpet in their dresses. Based on this collection there is no doubt we will be seeing a lot more from this brand on the red carpet in the future.
